Colin at Phoenix Bikes (a non-profit community bike store in S. Arlington) is looking for some experienced riders that can help us teach some teenagers how to do tricks. Pretty basic stuff - just building up some beginners. Would be 3 afternoons, August 13, 14, 15. Dates/times still a little flexible. Maybe one day in the skate park, though still working out the details. And hopefully we'll have some money for fuel - gas or grub - whatever gets you there.
Please drop him a line if you're interested -

Please take a few minutes to sign the following petition:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Skills_Area_Support/
MORE has been working with the State of MD department of natural resources and Patapsco Valley State Park for about 2 years on a plan to build an official skills area and technical trail (i.e. drops, jumps, skinnys, pump track, etc.) at Patapsco. They hired a trail consultant, put together slick looking presentations, glad-handed lots of politicians, and got lots of "yeah that sounds like a great idea"'s from the state only to get dis'ed when it came time to lay shovel to dirt.
Now they are telling us that they don't think the new trails meet their "resource-based management philosophy" even though other usergroups have had their projects pushed through (i.e. climbing walls, equestrian jumps, ropes courses...) In addition, they are going to tear out the so called Lewis and Clark rogue trails and have put a stop-work order up on the previously approved technical trails being built at Rosaryville State Park, a major case of backtracking, and please forgive the somewhat dated and politically incorrect terminology, Indian giving. Hell, without MORE's volunteer efforts, the trails at Patapsco, Rosaryville and thoughout the state of MD would either not exist or be in a very poor state of disrepair. The least the state could do is give a little back to them when they ask for something!
Anyway, please respectfully sign the petition. It will be forwarded (in person I am sure) to the MD department of natural resources and MD General Assembly. Thanks for your time. |

A week's worth of rain was not enough to dampen the rider's spirits. Saturday and Sunday the sun broke through and gave us a fast, tacky course that was a blast to ride. Chris Herndon took the win, with Josh Clark coming in 2nd. There was a very large roadgap that will hopefully provide us with some great video and pix in the days to come.

Back from Jersey and the US Open at Diablo. It was a great weekend with temps in the high 80s and a dry, fast course. The Diablo trail crew put together a few mods to the already world-class course that gave it more flow and made it more fun for riders and spectators alike. Pro finals were anticlimactic, as everyone waited for 1st place qualifier Sam Hill to come into view ... and waited ... he flatted up top and took a dirt sample coming into the bottom field. Sicklines has some great galleries of pix going on.
